As president and founder, I have over 30 years of experience working with kids and families. Since the late 1980's, I've worked with young people and families in a variety of areas. From the days of being a youth director for many congregations, to directing and constructing programs, I've been blessed with a wealth of experiences. In the 1990's, I've worked with youth in the juvenile justice industry as a case aide. My main responsibilities were monitoring adjudicated youth on in-home probationary status. I also worked directly supervising teens in lock up with day-to-day activities.. For six years I worked with families in the mental health industry by assisting adolescents with emotional and mental disorders. I dedicated my time connecting clients to services designed to improve their debilitating condition. These experiences were invaluable by increasing my knowledge in working with children and families in the most difficult areas of life.
Eventually in 2000, I ventured into the world of public education. This would be my life‘s passion. However, without my previous experiences, it would be meaningless. Working with children in the juvenile justice and mental health fields, afforded me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Nevertheless, one thing remains constant... people need people.
In the past twenty years, we've seen tremendous technological and scientific changes in our world. However, despite these wonderful strides, our standards in addressing the needs of children remains the same. In large cities, the drop out rate remain as high as 50%. The rates of expulsion are still disproportionate among various socio-economic groups. Among these groups, economic inequity and poverty plague these communities at an alarming rate. As a result, these issues have had catastrophic consequences in our society. High unemployment, social injustice and people’s perceived lack of opportunities have led to dysfunction and a sense of hopelessness. These conditions have manifested themselves in unresolved conflict, disorders and despair.
The solutions are not simple but we must develop plans of action to elevate these problems. As an IIRP (International Institute for Restorative Practices) Trainer of Trainers and Practitioner, my objective is to provide a set of services designed to help my clients cope with various social ailments. My goal is to use systematic approaches such as Restorative Practices, brain based research and mindfulness to address some of these dysfunctional areas. Come join us in facilitating a social paradigm shift to develop a healthy society.
